UN succeeds in delivering humanitarian aid to Dalanj and Kadugli

Dalanj - Mashaweer

A giant aid convoy organized by several UN agencies has reached two isolated cities in Kordofan, where the war tearing Sudan apart for three years is most intense, according to the World Food Programme (WFP).

A statement issued by the UN program noted that this is the “first major aid shipment to reach the region in three months.” It includes food products and medical supplies destined for the residents of Dalanj and Kadugli in South Kordofan.

For two years, both cities suffered under a siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied groups before the Sudanese Army broke through.

Last year, the United Nations confirmed that famine had spread in Kadugli and pointed to similar food shortages in Dalanj.

Makena Walker, the Acting Director for the WFP in Sudan, stressed the necessity of keeping roads open and movement predictable so that vital aid can reach the population without interruption, including those groups that have been cut off from the world for a long time.
