European Foreign Ministers: Rapid Support Forces (RSF) violence in El Fasher constitutes war crimes

Geneva - Mashaweer

A statement from the foreign ministers of the Core Group on Sudan at the UN Human Rights Council said on Thursday that the acts of violence committed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the city of El Fasher, Sudan, bear the hallmarks of genocide.

The group concluded, in a statement published by the German Foreign Ministry, that the violence led by the RSF constitutes war crimes and crimes against humanity, and carries the hallmarks of genocide.

The countries—Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Norway, and Britain—announced that they intend to form a coalition to prevent further atrocities in Sudan.

Human Rights Watch said on Wednesday that the RSF in Sudan targeted, mistreated, and killed people with disabilities during their attack and following their takeover of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, noting that this is the first time it has documented violations of this type and on this scale.
