The Emergency Room and health centers in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, warned of deteriorating humanitarian conditions within the city’s displacement centers following the closure of communal kitchens that provided food to hundreds of displaced individuals.
They confirmed that these conditions place thousands at risk of hunger as the crisis worsens.
In a statement on its Facebook page, the Room said: “The communal kitchens represented a lifeline for a large number of families who lost their sources of income, especially children, the elderly, and the sick, as they provided daily meals that met part of their basic needs.”
The statement explained that: “The Room contributed during the past period to supporting and operating these kitchens within the displacement centers, which helped alleviate the severity of the food crisis; however, the scarcity of resources has led to their closure.”
