Egypt and Turkey have emphasized the importance of advancing de-escalation efforts and creating an environment conducive to resuming a comprehensive political path in Sudan.
Both countries affirmed the necessity of respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Sudan, as well as the need to support its national institutions and not equate them with any militias.
This came during a phone call today, Friday, between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, as part of consultation and coordination between Cairo and Ankara regarding ways to support bilateral relations and exchange views on regional developments, including the military escalation in the region and developments in Sudan.
According to a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry today, Friday, the phone call also addressed the latest regional developments in light of the dangerous military escalation witnessed in the region. Abdelatty and Fidan exchanged views on the situation in the region and the importance of de-escalation, as well as prioritizing the diplomatic path and political solutions to contain the situation.
The two ministers warned of the catastrophic and dangerous repercussions of the continuing cycle of violence and the expansion of the conflict, which threatens regional and international peace and security.
During his visit to Cairo last February, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed their deep concern regarding the ongoing conflict in Sudan. Both called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict through a humanitarian truce that leads to a permanent ceasefire, followed by a comprehensive national dialogue and an inclusive Sudanese political process owned and led by the Sudanese people.
