Authorities in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, arrested a number of participants marking the anniversary of April 6 in several neighborhoods of old Omdurman.
According to statements issued by local groups, the arrests included members of Resistance Committees and neighborhood emergency rooms.
The December Revolution Principles Initiative said in a press statement that several activists were detained during the commemoration of April 6. Among them was Al-Tayeb Mohamed Saleh, the official spokesperson for the initiative, and they remain in custody.
On the sixth anniversary of the April 6, 2019 marches—widely seen as a turning point that led to the removal of former president Omar al-Bashir—Resistance Committees called for keeping the spirit of the December Revolution alive. They also stressed demands for the military to return to barracks, the dissolution of all militias including the Rapid Support Forces, and a firm commitment to restoring a civilian democratic transition.
