The governor of Kurmuk, Abdel Ati Mohamed, announced yesterday (Saturday) that 30,000 people have been displaced following attacks carried out by an alliance between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement on two villages in Kurmuk locality in Sudan’s Blue Nile region, southeast of the country.
He said that the administrative unit of Karn in Kurmuk locality witnessed the displacement of more than 30,000 residents to northern areas within the same unit due to attacks by what he described as “Rapid Support Forces militias and Joseph Tuka” on the villages of Dokanat and Karn.
He added that the local government strongly condemns the actions of these militias, which he said included looting citizens’ property, destroying agricultural produce stocks, and vandalizing health centers and water sources.
According to the governor, these groups are seeking through their actions to undermine the security and stability of civilians at a time when residents are preparing for the agricultural season by readying their farmland ahead of the approaching rainy season.
