Worsening Humanitarian Crisis for Sudanese Displaced Persons in Blue Nile

Blue Nile – Mashawir

Blue Nile State is facing a worsening humanitarian crisis, as the United Nations warns of the spread of diseases, epidemics, and severe malnutrition cases, particularly among children and women.

With ongoing violations, including kidnappings, sexual violence, and attacks targeting civilians, the flow of displaced people into an uncertain future continues. Fragile tents remain silent witnesses to the tragedy of a people fleeing death only to face exposure and hardship.

As fighting expands across the Blue Nile region, shelter centers in Al-Damazin have become unable to accommodate the growing influx of displaced people arriving day after day, turning the city’s limited capacity into merely a drop in the ocean of internal displacement.

Eyewitness testimonies closely match official statistics issued by international organizations documenting the scale of the tragedy. More than 49,000 people — approximately 9,900 families — have been displaced since the beginning of this year from the areas of Kurmuk, Bao, and Qeisan. They have been distributed across seven locations in Blue Nile State, with Al-Damazin serving as their main destination.

More than 78 percent of these displaced people are living in informal shelter sites lacking the most basic necessities of life, while the remaining families are taking refuge in schools and public buildings.
