Warnings of Tribal Tensions After Dozens Killed in Attack in Kordofan

Kordofan – Mashawir

The Sudanese government and forces aligned with the army condemned an attack in the rural areas of Bara, which resulted in the deaths of 40 people, according to the Sudan Doctors Network, and left dozens of civilians injured.

The Rapid Support Forces denied responsibility for the attack amid a war of accusations and warnings that the conflict could expand and evolve into tribal confrontations.

For its part, the government of North Kordofan State condemned the attack, announcing that the preliminary death toll had reached 31 people, with several others wounded. It described the incident as a “fully fledged crime against humanity.”

The Rapid Support Forces accused Sudanese military intelligence of supporting and arming tribal groups in Kordofan with the aim of fueling communal conflicts and creating instability in the region. The group also warned against attempts to exploit recent events to ignite tribal conflict in Kordofan.

In an official statement, Khalid Al-Aiser, Sudan’s Minister of Culture and Information, said that the attack was part of a series of systematic and bloody acts targeting civilians in North Kordofan. He called on the United Nations and regional and international human rights organizations to condemn these violations and work to hold those responsible accountable.
