The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has reported that levels of acute malnutrition have exceeded famine thresholds in parts of North Darfur.
According to the assessment, Umbro locality recorded a Global Acute Malnutrition (GAM) rate of 52.9 percent among children under the age of five, while the prevalence of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) reached 18.1 percent.
In Karnoi locality, the GAM rate stood at 34 percent, with Severe Acute Malnutrition recorded at 7.8 percent.
The report further indicated that approximately 825,000 children under the age of five are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition during 2026, representing a 7 percent increase compared with 2025 levels and an average increase of 25 percent compared with pre-war rates recorded between 2021 and 2023.
