Sudanese Journalists Syndicate: Testimonies of 39 Journalists Document Violations Against Refugees in Libya

Kampala – Mashawir

A report by the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate revealed a rise in discrimination and hate speech targeting refugee journalists in Libya.

The syndicate documented testimonies from 39 journalists who fled the war, only to face what they described as “racial humiliation” and deprivation of basic services.

One journalist recounted being expelled from a bakery and refused the purchase of bread, while also being threatened with violence, as his hungry children waited for him at home.

Thousands of Sudanese in Libya are facing dire conditions amid growing public anger over irregular migration, increasing incitement against foreigners, and the presence of large numbers of refugees and undocumented migrants.

Hundreds have expressed concern about their future due to the escalating hate speech directed at them, as well as the increasing pace of forced deportations, particularly after the Libyan authorities began deporting large numbers of Sudanese nationals in recent months.
