UN Warns Drone Attacks Threaten Civilians and Humanitarian Response in Sudan

Khartoum – Mashaweer

The United Nations has expressed deep concern over the deadly risks posed by drone strikes against civilians in Sudan.

The UN reported that dozens of people were killed or injured in a drone attack on a village in Kabkabiya locality in North Darfur.

It also noted that renewed drone attacks in recent days have targeted areas around El Obeid, including the vicinity of the airport, placing civilians, critical infrastructure, and humanitarian operations at serious risk.

The United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Tom Fletcher, said that humanitarian workers are expanding their response to reach families affected by the conflict in North Kordofan. He added that they will seize every possible opportunity to scale up life-saving assistance in and around El Obeid.

Fletcher called on all parties to the conflict to de-escalate hostilities, protect civilians, and ensure safe and unhindered humanitarian access.
