Displaced people from the Kurmuk area, bordering Ethiopia, particularly those who fled from Al-Kili, Khor Hassan, and neighboring villages, are facing severe humanitarian conditions amid acute shortages of food, drinking water, and shelter materials.
Videos circulating on social media showed women, children, and elderly people living in extremely difficult conditions. Some were seen eating tree leaves, while others were sleeping in the open amid rainfall and changing weather conditions.
Local activists said the situation requires urgent humanitarian intervention to provide food, drinking water, medicines, and shelter materials, while ensuring additional protection and assistance for the most vulnerable groups.
In recent months, the Blue Nile region has become a major conflict hotspot, with military operations escalating between the Sudanese Army on one side and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N) on the other, particularly in the Kurmuk and Geissan areas and their surroundings. The escalation has resulted in successive waves of displacement.
