The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces, “Sumoud,” said that the October 25 coup, carried out by the leadership of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, with the support and planning of forces affiliated with the former regime, derailed a historic opportunity to build a modern, democratic civilian state.
In a statement, the alliance added that “our country is experiencing one of the darkest periods in its history amid a devastating war that has caused an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe.”
It explained that “military rule and the seizure of the state by the National Congress Party and its ‘terrorist’ Islamist movement represent one of Sudan’s greatest crises.”
The statement continued: “We are committed to working to immediately end the war, protect civilians, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and hold those responsible for violations accountable.”
The alliance also stated: “We pledge to launch a comprehensive and genuine peace process that addresses the root causes of the crisis and ensures that this war will be the last war our country ever experiences.”
