Switzerland is set to host expanded meetings in late November involving Sudanese political and civilian forces, with the participation of the Democratic Bloc and the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud).
The meetings come within the framework of international efforts to explore ways of ending the armed conflict and stopping the war in Sudan, while facilitating dialogue among the country’s various political and civilian groups.
The upcoming meetings will discuss pressing humanitarian and political issues, ways to strengthen consensus among Sudanese forces, and efforts to develop a common framework to support ceasefire initiatives and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to affected populations.
These developments build on the “Neuchâtel Process” and previous consultative workshops sponsored by international organisations in coordination with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The initiative aims to bring the positions of Sudanese parties closer together, amid ongoing disagreements over the mechanisms and expected outcomes of the dialogue.
