The Media Officer at the North Darfur State Ministry of Health, Lina Awad Sabeel, confirmed that at least 15,000 civilians have been killed and thousands displaced following the Rapid Support Forces’ takeover of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, in late October.
Sabeel stated that arbitrary detention, torture, hunger, and disease inside RSF-run detention centers are still ongoing. She also accused the forces of committing systematic violations, including targeting healthcare facilities and medical teams, destroying the state’s healthcare system, denying civilians access to treatment, blocking humanitarian assistance, and deliberately killing patients and wounded individuals who are unable to move.
She explained that the RSF has detained a large number of healthcare and administrative personnel after the fall of El Fasher — more than 250 individuals — of whom around 30 have been released, including the Director-General of Health, Khadija Musa, while the remaining detainees are still in custody.
Sabeel noted that after the fall of El Fasher, UN reports, human rights organizations, and survivor testimonies indicated a severe deterioration in the conditions of women and children.
She confirmed that mass displacement has affected large numbers of women and children, who fled to various areas within Sudan or crossed borders into neighboring countries. Pregnant women, she added, faced extreme hardship during the journey, leading to miscarriages in some cases.
