Community Kitchens Struggle to Support Displaced People in Darfur Region

Tawila – Mashawir

Displaced people living in shelters across the Darfur region are enduring harsh conditions and ongoing suffering, most notably due to food shortages and limited access to essential supplies.

As the humanitarian crisis in the region deepens, some volunteers have developed initiatives to help those in need.

In this context, the Tawila and Jebel Marra Emergency Rooms Council has launched 15 community kitchens as part of humanitarian efforts aimed at alleviating the suffering of displaced populations.

The project aims to provide daily meals to 4,500 displaced families for 10 consecutive days, in an attempt to bridge the growing food gap amid the severe humanitarian conditions facing the region.

This intervention is part of a broader series of initiatives carried out by emergency response groups in collaboration with local communities and volunteers, with the goal of strengthening social solidarity and reducing the impact of displacement—particularly on the most vulnerable groups such as children, women, and the elderly.
