“OCHA”: Insecurity and Famine Threaten Civilians’ Lives in Darfur

Darfur – Mashawir

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that ongoing clashes and insecurity are worsening the food crisis in Darfur and threatening the lives of civilians.

The office added that more than 15,000 people in Ambro locality in North Darfur will benefit from humanitarian assistance provided by UNICEF, including health, nutrition, water, and sanitation services.

It explained that malnutrition rates in Ambro have exceeded emergency thresholds amid severe food insecurity.

The UN agency also noted that continued insecurity and drone activity are hindering the delivery of humanitarian aid to people in need in North Darfur.

It pointed out that the United Nations and its partners have delivered food assistance to around 15,000 families in Kulbus locality in West Darfur during recent weeks.

OCHA further highlighted that ongoing violence and tribal clashes across Darfur are causing displacement, disrupting essential services, and threatening civilians’ lives.
