Insecurity Forces 70,000 People to Flee in Blue Nile
Blue Nile – Mashawir
The Governor of Al-Kurmuk, Abdel Ati Al-Faki, stated that more than 70,000 people have fled the area due to recent violations and armed clashes.
He explained that “the general conditions of the displaced people from the town are relatively stable in temporary gathering areas in the towns of Dandro and Gambarza in the Blue Nile region.”
The government official urged international and local humanitarian organizations working in the relief sector to provide immediate assistance to those affected by the forced displacement.
He noted that “the actual needs for shelter materials, health services, and food supplies exceed the financial and logistical capacity of the entire Blue Nile State.”
Meanwhile, field teams from the International Organization for Migration recorded a new wave of mass displacement in the Blue Nile region.
In a statement, the organization explained that “around 3,860 people, representing 772 families, fled from the villages of Khor Hassan and Abijo in Al-Kurmuk locality due to the deteriorating security situation.”
The statement added that the displaced people moved toward Qeisan locality in the same state, while the security situation remains highly tense and volatile.
