UN: Humanitarian Crisis in Sudan Continues to Worsen in 2026

Khartoum – Mashawir

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced that the humanitarian crisis in Sudan continues to deteriorate throughout 2026.

The office stated that approximately 33.7 million people are now in need of humanitarian assistance, making it one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

OCHA explained that humanitarian partners are seeking $2.9 billion in funding to provide life-saving aid to around 20.4 million people across the country.

It added that despite major operational challenges — including insecurity, limited access, and funding shortages — humanitarian organizations managed to reach 9 million people by April 2026. However, only about 610,000 people received multi-sectoral assistance, reflecting the scale of unmet needs.

The office also noted that the humanitarian response focused on the hardest-hit areas, where 1.3 million out of 1.5 million people living in seven localities classified as being at catastrophic levels of need received humanitarian aid. Assistance also reached 5.2 million people in areas facing extreme humanitarian needs..
