Sudan Doctors: Random Mining Threatens the Lives of Nile River State Residents

River Nile State – Mashawir

The Sudan Doctors Network revealed the death of more than 20 sheep in River Nile State due to fermentation ponds linked to gold mining activities that use cyanide and thiourea chemicals.

The network stated that the cyanide and thiourea used in gold extraction operations directly caused the livestock deaths and pose a serious threat to the lives of citizens.

It added: “We hold the Ministry of Minerals and the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company fully responsible for the continuation of these dangerous practices and the catastrophic consequences they have on human health, animals, and the environment.”

The network further called on the relevant authorities to take urgent action to combat illegal mining, stop unsafe chemical fermentation operations, and tighten control over the use of toxic substances.
