Hamdok: There Must Be Agreement on a Comprehensive and Credible Political Process
Nairobi – Mashawir
Former Sudanese Prime Minister and head of the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces “Sumoud,” Dr. Abdalla Hamdok, said that the Nairobi meeting is being held amid an existential battle for Sudan — “to be or not to be.”
He pointed to the destruction, loss of lives, displacement, and refugee crisis caused by the war.
In his speech before the opening session of the meeting held yesterday (Friday), Hamdok said that Sudan today represents the largest humanitarian catastrophe in the world, surpassing what has happened in Gaza and other conflict zones.
He stressed that the main reason Sudan has remained in a state of conflict since 1955 is the failure to manage diversity, which ultimately led to the loss of a precious part of the country.
Hamdok firmly stated that there is no military solution to the war, renewing his call for agreement on a new social contract that would lay the foundation for building a modern state based on respect for diversity and equal citizenship without discrimination.
He continued by saying that it is extremely important for the meeting to reach agreement on a comprehensive and credible political process led by Sudanese people themselves. He emphasized that the three tracks — humanitarian, political, and ceasefire — must proceed simultaneously, in parallel, and in an integrated manner.
He called on the participants to come up with a comprehensive vision regarding these three tracks as a contribution from the civilian forces.
Hamdok added that everyone knows there are many initiatives dealing with the Sudanese issue, and unless civilian forces unite and possess a clear vision, the country’s future will be arranged on their behalf.
He further stated: “We no longer have the luxury of wasting time.
Therefore, we must agree on all the issues at hand, foremost among them the political process, the parties that should participate in it, and the issues that the dialogue is expected to address.”
