Terrifying Spread of Chickenpox in Darfur Amid Dozens of Deaths

The Sudan office of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) stated that the United Nations and its partners are working with Sudanese health authorities to address a suspected outbreak of Chickenpox in the states of Central and South Darfur.

The coordination office said in a statement that “more than 300 suspected cases and five related deaths were reported in the two states this week.”

It also revealed a suspected outbreak of acute watery diarrhea, commonly associated with Cholera, in West Kordofan.

The statement noted that preliminary figures for this week alone indicate more than 100 suspected cases in the state, along with dozens of related deaths.

It further pointed to a doubling in suspected cases of Dengue Fever in Northern State, reaching more than 500 cases.
