Completion of Arrangements for the Quintet Committee Meeting in Ethiopia to Advance the Sudan Peace Process

Addis Ababa – Mashawir

Meetings of the five-party committee on the Sudanese crisis are set to begin next Wednesday at the headquarters of the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with the participation of Sudanese parties that took part in the Berlin Conference on Sudan.

The five-party committee comprises the United Nations, the European Union, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the League of Arab States.

The anticipated meetings aim to bridge differences among the participating Sudanese parties and implement the outcomes of the Berlin Conference held last April. The discussions are part of preparations for broader political negotiations that will take into account serious initiatives currently on the table, including the Quartet Initiative, within ongoing diplomatic efforts to advance political dialogue and bring an end to the continuing war in Sudan.

In the same context, the Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Sudan, Pekka Haavisto, continues his meetings and consultations with relevant parties in support of de-escalation efforts and measures aimed at strengthening the protection of civilians across the country.
