Sudanese Doctors: Repeated Displacement and Collapse of the Health Sector Threaten the Spread of Epidemics and Rising Death Rates

Khartoum – Mashawir

The spokesperson for the Sudan Doctors Committee, Sayed Mohamed Abdullah, said that repeated displacement and the collapse of the health sector are threatening the spread of epidemics and an increase in mortality rates across Sudan.

He added that the overcrowding of displaced people in confined areas is worsening the humanitarian situation amid ongoing attacks and deteriorating living conditions in the country.

Abdullah explained that several areas are experiencing dangerous outbreaks of dengue fever and other diseases due to weak infrastructure and the absence of effective health surveillance systems at the present time.

He further stated that Sudan is witnessing what he described as the deliberate targeting of medical personnel, while humanitarian organizations have become unable to access some conflict-affected areas.
