“Somoud” Coalition Boycotts Quintet Meetings as Disputes Delay Opening Session

Addis Ababa – Mashawir

The opening session of the Quintet Committee’s meetings with Sudanese political groups in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, was postponed due to new developments and emerging disagreements.

Participants were surprised by the inclusion of a fourth bloc, led by Mohammed Sayed Ahmed “Al-Jakoumi,” in the meeting agenda.

As a result of these developments, the participating groups held a meeting with the Quintet Committee to seek clarification regarding previous commitments. However, the committee was unable to provide clear answers on the matter.

In response, the Civil Coalition of Revolutionary Forces, “Somoud,” decided to boycott the opening session and refrain from attending. Instead, it opted to engage in intensive consultations and meetings with other groups and political blocs in an effort to reach a consensus framework for the political process.

The Quintet Mechanism comprises the United Nations, the African Union, the Arab League, the European Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
