Sudanese Journalists Syndicate Calls for Protection of Stranded Journalists in Libya

Kampala – Mashawir

The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate has expressed concern over the conditions facing Sudanese journalists stranded in Libya.

The syndicate stated that it has received appeals and testimonies indicating that a number of journalists and their families have been subjected to harassment, threats, and discriminatory practices that endanger their security and safety.

In a statement, the syndicate said that some journalists have been forced to leave their areas of residence urgently out of concern for their families, amid escalating security and humanitarian challenges facing Sudanese nationals living in Libya.

The syndicate called on international and regional organizations concerned with press freedom and human rights to intervene urgently to assess the situation of the journalists, provide them with legal and humanitarian protection and support, and consider evacuation or resettlement options for those facing the greatest risks.

It also urged the Libyan authorities to take the necessary measures to ensure the safety of Sudanese journalists and their families and protect them from any violations or discriminatory practices. The syndicate stressed that the continuation of these conditions without urgent intervention could expose many of them to serious danger.
