Escalating Fighting in Blue Nile Drives Thousands of Displaced People Into an Uncertain Future

Blue Nile – Mashawir

Sudanese internally displaced people in the Blue Nile region are facing catastrophic humanitarian conditions amid severe shortages of food, medicine, and drinking water.

According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 57 percent of those fleeing the violence have been forced to relocate to remote rural areas within the region, while 43 percent have settled in urban centers.

In this context, a displaced resident identified as Salman Al-Rahima told Mashawir that although he managed to reach a displacement camp with his family, they continue to face extremely difficult living conditions.

He described the options available to hundreds of displaced families as being limited to either remaining in overcrowded shelters or leaving for an uncertain future.

Meanwhile, the United Nations warned that women and girls account for 53 percent of the newly displaced population, making them particularly vulnerable to gender-based violence and other protection risks.
