US$87 Million International Project to Support Agriculture and Food Security in Sudan

The World Food Programme (WFP) announced that, in partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB), it has launched the Boosting Resilient Agricultural and Food Systems in Sudan (BOOST) project, with a total budget of US$87 million, aimed at supporting agricultural production and strengthening food security across the country.
According to the WFP, the four-year project will work with more than 230,000 farming households in Sennar and Blue Nile states. The initiative seeks to increase agricultural productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, improve farmers’ incomes, and strengthen their access to local markets.
The programme added that the project is expected to generate approximately one million metric tons of cereals and legumes over its implementation period, helping to meet the food needs of around nine million Sudanese people at a time when more than 19 million people are facing acute levels of food insecurity.
