Libya’s Anti-Illegal Migration Agency has announced the deportation of 112 irregular migrants, including Sudanese nationals, from the city of Derna to their countries of origin.
The authorities said that all necessary legal and security procedures were followed, noting that some of those deported were wanted in connection with security-related cases.
They also indicated that several deportees were suffering from infectious diseases.
Since the beginning of June, thousands of Sudanese in Libya have been facing increasingly difficult conditions amid growing public anger over irregular migration, as well as rising anti-foreigner rhetoric and the presence of large numbers of refugees and undocumented migrants.
Hundreds of Sudanese have expressed concern about their future as hate speech against foreigners escalates and forced deportations increase, particularly after Libyan authorities began deporting large numbers of Sudanese over the past two days.
