Transfers and Dismissals of Dozens of Teachers in Al Jazirah State Coincide with Strike
Wad Madani – Mashawir
The Sudanese Teachers’ Committee revealed on Wednesday that 84 male and female teachers had been transferred and 20 school principals removed from their positions in several localities in southern Al Jazirah State, central Sudan, following the teachers’ strike. The committee described the measures as an attempt to pressure striking teachers and undermine their demands for improved living conditions.
Sami Al-Baqir, spokesperson for the Teachers’ Committee, criticized the actions, saying they targeted teachers for demanding better wages and improved living standards.
He added that some of the transfer lists were based on routine administrative procedures but accused the authorities of expediting their implementation and using them to impose punitive measures against striking teachers.
Meanwhile, the Al Jazirah State Teachers’ Media Platform said in a statement that it had monitored the issuance of extensive transfer orders affecting male and female teachers, as well as the dismissal of several school principals across a number of localities in the state, coinciding with the ongoing strike.
The committee argued that the timing, scale, and nature of the decisions suggest they go beyond ordinary administrative measures and instead represent an attempt to sidestep the real crisis—namely, the teachers’ legitimate demands.
