Volunteer Initiatives Support Sudanese Women Refugees in Eastern Chad
Eastern Chad – Mashawir
Women-led organizations run by Sudanese activists have launched numerous projects across various sectors to support Sudanese women refugees in eastern Chad.
Speaking to Mashawir, Samia Bashara said that she and a group of young women launched an initiative to support refugees by distributing food, drinking water, and basic medicines.
She added that volunteer doctors provide a range of services to patients, pregnant women, and elderly people, in addition to distributing medications.
According to Bashara, these services have helped Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad and eased the burden on dozens of women.
Meanwhile, Maryam Hussein, who manages a charitable kitchen in the Ardami Refugee Camp, said that the free kitchen provides daily meals and serves around 200 refugees.
She told Mashawir that women activists working in the refugee camps of eastern Chad also provide psychosocial support, healthcare services, and sanitary pads for Sudanese girls.
Hussein noted that the number of Sudanese women refugees continues to increase steadily, making sustained support essential to meet daily needs.
She also appealed to international organizations to support volunteer initiatives in order to assist thousands of refugees.
