Unprecedented Cost-of-Living Crisis in Sudan Deepens Citizens’ Suffering
Khartoum – Mashawir
The Sudanese pound has recorded a new decline against the US dollar despite the government’s ban on the import of 46 commodities aimed at reducing demand for foreign currencies and the introduction of new controls on imports.
The US dollar is nearing the 5,000-pound mark, reaching 4,950 Sudanese pounds per dollar in Thursday evening trading.
Currency traders warned of the severe economic consequences for citizens’ living conditions as the Sudanese pound continues to lose value against foreign currencies.
Prices of consumer goods have risen to unprecedented levels across the three cities of the capital region—Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri.
