Sudanese Teachers’ Committee: Pressure Campaign and Measures to Remove Striking Teachers in Al-Jazira State

Wad Madani – Mashawir

Some school administrations in Sudan’s Al-Jazira State have begun removing teachers from work as of Sunday, following unsuccessful attempts to end an ongoing strike demanding improved salaries.

Teachers in Al-Jazira State have been on strike for weeks, calling for better wages and the payment of outstanding financial entitlements, amid escalating disputes with education authorities over how to respond to their demands.

In a statement, the Sudanese Teachers’ Committee said it had received reports that administrations in several major schools in Wad Madani had applied pressure on teachers and sought to suspend or terminate their services after efforts to end the strike failed.

The committee described these actions as an attempt to break the strike, emphasizing that teachers have exercised their constitutional and legal right to strike in order to demand improved living conditions.
