Residents of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, say they have increasingly been forced to rely on wells, water trucks, and a limited number of water distribution points to cope with severe water shortages.
Over the past several weeks, the flow of humanitarian and food assistance into the city has declined significantly, worsening conditions for residents.
Mohamed Refaat of the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) warned that the city is approaching a complete siege, with civilians likely to lose the ability to leave safely or return safely in the near future.
He explained that relief organizations have suspended their operations in El Obeid due to the deteriorating security situation and restricted access, while humanitarian needs have far exceeded the pre-positioned emergency supplies available in the city.
