UK Foreign Secretary: International Community Must Act Together to Prevent a Tragedy in El Obeid

London – Mashawir

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has called for an end to the violence in Sudan.

She warned that the city of El Obeid must not become the scene of another senseless tragedy.

Cooper urged the international community to act with unity and determination to prevent the looming humanitarian catastrophe.

Speaking ahead of a session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, she recalled that the world had failed the people of El Fasher last year, when horrific atrocities were committed.

She stressed that the international community must not allow El Obeid to suffer the same fate.

Cooper also noted that the city has come under attack by dozens of drones in recent weeks, targeting aid workers and relief trucks. The attacks have reportedly killed civilians and disrupted access to essential services—developments that, she said, the international community cannot afford to ignore.
