Hundreds of displaced people who fled the Sudanese city of El Obeid to White Nile State are facing extremely difficult humanitarian conditions due to severe shortages of shelter and food.
The escalation of drone attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the capital of North Kordofan State, along with the deteriorating security situation, has forced thousands of displaced people to flee to the cities of Kosti and Rabak.
Displaced resident Hamad Taha told Mashawir that he and his family arrived in Rabak after the displacement camp where they had been staying in El Obeid came under attack, leaving a number of displaced people seriously injured.
He added that most families fleeing the capital of North Kordofan faced enormous hardship during the journey, particularly due to the high cost of transportation after exhausting their financial savings.
“Even after reaching Rabak, the suffering continued,” he said. “There is no available shelter in the displacement camps because they are already overcrowded with large numbers of displaced people.”
Meanwhile, displaced woman Kaltoum Bashir said she arrived in Kosti three days ago with a large group of displaced families and, after great difficulty, they managed to find a shelter hosting hundreds of other displaced people.
Speaking to Mashawir, she explained that the shelter is severely overcrowded, while deadly diseases are spreading amid the near-total absence of healthcare services.
Bashir also highlighted the acute shortages of food and safe drinking water, warning that the worsening conditions threaten the health of children and the elderly and are contributing to the growing spread of malnutrition.
