Massad Boulos: We Are Focused on Bringing Sudanese Parties into Dialogue Leading to a Truce and Comprehensive Peace
Washington – Mashaweer
Massad Boulos, the U.S. President’s Senior Advisor for African and Arab Affairs, has denied recent media reports and commentary claiming that a final agreement on a humanitarian truce and a peace plan for Sudan is imminent.
He stressed that the negotiation process continues to face significant obstacles and that several key issues remain unresolved.
In a post on the social media platform X, Boulos stated that claims suggesting the Sudanese parties have fully agreed on all major issues are inaccurate. He also rejected assertions that the negotiations are now held up by only a single outstanding issue.
Boulos affirmed that diplomatic efforts and discussions are ongoing to encourage the parties to consider specific proposals. He revealed that several fundamental issues have yet to be accepted, while others have been firmly rejected by the negotiating parties.
He said: “Public comments, speculation, or alleged documents suggesting that an agreement has been reached or that issues have been resolved are neither official nor helpful to the intended process.”
He emphasized that any official agreement reached will be announced publicly through official channels, urging the public to avoid relying on leaks or unofficial documents that could undermine the sensitive negotiations.
Boulos also outlined the current and future priorities of the mediation efforts, noting that the primary focus is now on facilitating a serious and constructive dialogue by bringing the Sudanese parties to genuine negotiations without preconditions; securing safe humanitarian corridors and an immediate ceasefire to alleviate civilian suffering; and laying the foundation for a sustainable peace plan that guarantees a democratic political transition capable of ending Sudan’s crisis at its roots.
