Humanitarian Situation Deteriorates in Displacement Camps in North Darfur
North Darfur – Mashaweer
The General Coordination of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Refugees said in a statement that displacement camps across Sudan are facing a rapidly worsening humanitarian and health crisis.
The Coordination’s spokesperson, Adam Rijal, said that displaced people are living under extremely harsh conditions following the collapse of most basic services and the suspension of healthcare services at many medical facilities.
He added that residents are experiencing widespread outbreaks of malaria, measles, acute diarrhea, and cholera, amid an almost complete shortage of medicines and essential medical supplies.
Rijal further noted that malnutrition among children and women has reached extremely alarming levels, with the number of deaths increasing due to shortages of food, clean drinking water, and shelter, warning that the situation is on the verge of a devastating humanitarian catastrophe.
He appealed to the international community and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to provide food, shelter, and medical assistance, rebuild the healthcare system, and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in need without obstruction or politicization. He stressed that an urgent response is both a humanitarian and moral obligation that cannot be delayed.
According to the Coordination, the camps are under severe strain as displaced people continue to crowd into open areas under extremely poor conditions, without adequate food, safe drinking water, or even basic shelter.
