Tina Emergency Room Launches Community Kitchen to Support Displaced Families in North Darfur

The Tina Mother Emergency Room in North Darfur State has launched a community kitchen project to provide emergency humanitarian assistance to displaced families at the Hamra displacement site. The initiative aims to ease the worsening food crisis in the area.

In its current phase, the project seeks to provide daily meals to approximately 200 displaced families living under extremely difficult humanitarian conditions.

Speaking to Mashaweer, Taher Yahya, a member of the Tina Emergency Room, said the launch of the community kitchen was an essential response to save hundreds of stranded families.

He explained that the humanitarian situation at the Hamra site has reached a critical stage that can no longer be ignored, with displaced families lacking even the most basic necessities of life.

«”This community kitchen is a lifeline for 200 families, and we are working with all our capacity to ensure its continuity so that children and women can receive at least the minimum daily food they need,” he said.»

Yahya added that the Emergency Room relies heavily on volunteers and limited community contributions, appealing to charitable organizations and humanitarian agencies to support the kitchen so it can expand its services to reach more people in need.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Taj El-Din, a volunteer activist in North Darfur State, told Mashaweer that the initiative is facing complex logistical challenges under the current conditions in the region.

He said:

However, the greatest challenge is ensuring a continuous supply of food and cooking fuel, especially amid soaring prices and severe movement restrictions. Humanitarian needs in North Darfur are increasing every day, and we fear this vital relief lifeline could come to a halt unless it receives urgent support.”»
