Volunteers Provide Emergency Shelter Assistance to Dozens of Displaced Families in Darfur

North Darfur – Mashaweer

Volunteers have distributed emergency shelter assistance to 100 of the most vulnerable displaced families in the Arkouri area of Umbro Locality, North Darfur State. The beneficiaries included older persons, people with disabilities, and women-headed households. The assistance was provided as part of the humanitarian response for families displaced from the areas of Khazan Orshi, Umbro, and Gorbora, with the aim of easing their suffering amid the ongoing displacement crisis.

Ali Ahmed, a member of the Reef for Development Organization, told Mashaweer that the aid package included plastic tarpaulins and insecticide-treated mosquito nets to provide families with basic protection from rain and harsh weather conditions, while also helping reduce the risk of diseases and epidemics commonly associated with the rainy season.

He explained that the distribution was carried out in coordination with traditional community leaders and the local committee to ensure that assistance reached those most in need. Each family received one tarpaulin and one mosquito net.

One of the beneficiaries, Abdulrahman Ismail, told Mashaweer that the assistance had eased some of the hardships faced by displaced families, particularly with the rainy season approaching.

He noted, however, that many families remain in urgent need of additional shelter materials and food assistance to cope with the difficult humanitarian conditions.

The Reef for Development Organization stressed that the humanitarian gap in the area remains significant, with hundreds of families still living in the open without adequate shelter to protect them from seasonal rains.

The organization warned that conditions are likely to deteriorate further as the rainy season progresses and the risk of disease outbreaks increases.

It called on donor agencies, humanitarian organizations, and charitable individuals to urgently provide additional shelter and food assistance to help protect displaced people and meet their basic needs.
