Shortage of Chemotherapy Drugs Worsens the Suffering of Cancer Patients in Al Jazirah State

The Sudan Doctors Network said that a strike by medical staff, coupled with a severe shortage of chemotherapy doses for cancer patients, has led to a significant deterioration of services at the Oncology Hospital in Wad Madani.
In a statement, the network said that cancer patients in Al Jazirah State are facing a critical shortage of chemotherapy medications due to the decline in healthcare services.
The statement explained that several healthcare workers have stopped working after going unpaid for two months, resulting in a shortage of nursing staff and delays in treatment. As a result, some patients are receiving only half of their prescribed chemotherapy doses and are being referred to private facilities to complete their treatment.
The network expressed concern over what it described as continued negligence by the relevant health authorities, noting that this is the third recurrence of the crisis this year, following an earlier suspension of radiotherapy services and the ongoing shortages of medicines and medical personnel.
It warned that this inaction threatens the lives of cancer patients and deprives them of their right to essential treatment and healthcare.
The network called on the Federal Ministry of Health and the Al Jazirah State Ministry of Health to intervene urgently by paying the outstanding salaries of healthcare workers, securing adequate supplies of chemotherapy drugs, and restoring stable services at the Oncology Hospital in Wad Madani.
