Warnings of Worsening Humanitarian Conditions for Displaced People in Darfur

Volunteer organizations have expressed deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation at Al-Nakheel Camp in the Khazan Jadid administrative unit of East Darfur State, warning of worsening conditions for displaced people, particularly women, children, and the elderly, due to severe shortages of food, safe drinking water, and healthcare services.

The Darfur Victims Advocacy Organization and the Hope and Refuge Organization for Refugees stated, following a joint field visit to the camp at the end of July 2026, that many families have not received any food assistance for nearly a year. They added that the lack of livelihood opportunities has further aggravated living conditions and increased residents’ dependence on humanitarian aid.

Adam Abdullah, a member of the Darfur Victims Advocacy Organization, told Mashaweer that the two organizations have issued an urgent humanitarian appeal to local, regional, and international organizations, as well as donor agencies, calling for immediate intervention to provide food assistance and essential services to help save the lives of affected families and alleviate their suffering.

Meanwhile, humanitarian activist Al-Tahir Ibrahim in East Darfur told Mashaweer that the continued decline in humanitarian response at the camp is likely to lead to a further deterioration of health and food security conditions.

He called for strengthening emergency interventions and ensuring the regular delivery of humanitarian assistance, while prioritizing the most vulnerable groups, particularly children, women, the elderly, and people with illnesses.
