Community Activities Call for an End to War and Peace in Sudan

Residents of several villages in Adila locality, East Darfur State, have begun organizing community activities calling for an end to the war, the establishment of peace and the promotion of peaceful coexistence among all components of society, despite the severe humanitarian and economic conditions.

The initiatives represent a model of solidarity among internally displaced people, refugees and the local host community amid deteriorating living conditions and severe shortages of essential services.

The villages are home to around 5,000 people from nearly 800 families, most of them internally displaced people and refugees, alongside members of the host community. Women, children and older people make up the majority of the population.

Mahmoud Abdel Halim, a volunteer activist in East Darfur State, told Mashaweer that despite differences in their circumstances and backgrounds, residents of the villages share available resources and cooperate in confronting the challenges they face.

He noted that “peaceful coexistence has become essential to maintaining community stability amid the continuation of the war and the worsening humanitarian needs.”

Abdel Halim explained that the area has received no humanitarian assistance from local, regional or international organizations since the outbreak of the war on April 15, 2023, a situation that has further worsened the conditions of families, particularly with cases of malnutrition emerging among children and women.
