Theatre Performances Promote Peaceful Coexistence in New Halfa

Volunteers in New Halfa locality, Kassala State, organized a community event featuring interactive theatre performances highlighting the importance of peaceful coexistence and mechanisms for conflict resolution. Persons with disabilities were directly and actively involved in leading the event and participating in its activities.

The event was held as part of an open day organized by the Child Development Organization in “Housing 10” village. It also included an open bazaar showcasing and marketing products made by women who had received training in income-generating projects, as well as an educational drama addressing the risks of gender-based violence and ways to prevent and protect against it.

Ayman Sharaf Al-Din, a member of the Child Development Organization, told Mashaweer that “the event witnessed broad participation from the local community.”

He noted that “the participation reflected the strength of partnership and cohesion within the local community.”

Meanwhile, community activist in New Halfa locality Mohamed Khalil told Mashaweer that “the event is part of a project aimed at strengthening the resilience of displaced people, refugees, and vulnerable host communities in eastern Sudan, in partnership with and funded by the United Nations Development Programme.”

He stressed that “building social peace is not limited to temporary events and initiatives; rather, it requires embedding a culture of coexistence, dialogue, and acceptance of others in the daily lives of communities.”
