Youth Initiative Pledges to Combat Hate Speech and Respect Diversity

Kampala – Mashaweer

On the occasion of International Youth Day, the Youth Network Against Hate Speech reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to combat hate speech and strengthen youth-led initiatives aimed at promoting dialogue, coexistence, and respect for diversity.

The network said that “combating hate speech requires awareness, responsible speech, and collective action,” stressing that “building the future cannot be achieved through loud rhetoric, but rather through initiatives that put people at the center of their priorities.”

Speaking to Mashaweer, network member Salah Mohamed Omar said that “young people’s participation in community initiatives and digital platforms provides them with an important opportunity to reshape public discourse and contribute to promoting a narrative based on dialogue and respect.”

He added: “We believe that diversity is a source of strength and that differences should not be turned into a tool for exclusion.”

He called for adopting a culture of dialogue and creating spaces for discussions based on mutual respect and acceptance of others.
