Lack of Healthcare Services Worsens the Suffering of Residents in Eastern Darfur
Shangil Tobaya – Mashaweer
The Emergency Response Room in the Shairiya area of East Darfur has warned that the continued shortage of healthcare services could expose residents to increasing health risks following the suspension of services at the town’s main health facilities.
In a statement, the Emergency Response Room called on humanitarian agencies, organizations, and philanthropists to provide urgently needed medicines and medical supplies, and to reopen the maternity ward at Rahad Al-Biar Health Center, which serves more than 5,000 people.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that “heavy rains and floods swept through Shangil Tobaya locality, southwest of El Fasher in North Darfur State, destroying dozens of homes and forcing more than 46 families to seek temporary shelter in open areas within the locality.”
The organization said in a statement that 1,348 homes were completely or partially destroyed by the rains and floods, while 975 families were displaced in Tawila locality in the same state.
