Worn-Out Tents and Spreading Diseases… Harsh Conditions Facing Displaced People from Geissan

Mashaweer - Damazin

The “Sudan Doctors Network” announced today (Tuesday) that more than 5,000 people have been displaced from the Geissan area to Damazin in Sudan’s Blue Nile Region, warning of deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions that require urgent intervention.

In a statement, the network said, “The displaced people arrived in Damazin amid severe shortages of food, medicines, and shelter materials, threatening their lives and increasing their suffering, particularly among children, women, and elderly people.”

The network warned that the humanitarian and health conditions of the displaced are likely to deteriorate further as heavy rains continue across the Blue Nile Region.

It pointed to “health and environmental risks that may arise from these conditions, including an increased likelihood of disease outbreaks, amid limited resources and response capacities to address the growing needs.”

The network stressed the need for humanitarian assistance to reach affected people without obstruction and as quickly as possible, and called for efforts to prevent any further deterioration of their humanitarian and health conditions.
