Grassroots Initiative in Khartoum Presents Vision for Strengthening Social Peace

Khartoum – Mashaweer

A grassroots social peace initiative in the Haj Yousif area of Sudan’s capital, Khartoum, has presented its vision and objectives aimed at addressing the consequences of the war and repairing social divisions, amid the social and psychological impacts left by the conflict and the spread of divisive and hateful rhetoric threatening community cohesion.

The initiative said its launch came in response to the need for serious community-based solutions that contribute to rebuilding trust among different components of society and strengthening social cohesion.

It noted that Haj Yousif represents a microcosm of Sudan’s diversity, encompassing a wide range of social, tribal, and cultural groups.

A delegation of initiative members met with Natlina Yacoub, Secretary-General of the Higher Council for Social Peace. The meeting discussed efforts to address the consequences of the war, counter hate speech, promote a culture of tolerance and peaceful coexistence, and reinforce the values of citizenship and acceptance of diversity.

Al-Nourani Mohammed, head of the initiative, told Mashaweer that both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation between the initiative and the Higher Council for Social Peace. He said this would help transform the initiative into a practical community program that contributes to healing social divisions and strengthening communication among the area’s various communities.

He added that the initiative seeks to build bridges of trust and peace among citizens and establish a culture of dialogue and acceptance of others, supporting efforts to restore social cohesion in the post-war period.
