Medical sources in El Obeid, North Kordofan State, Sudan, reported the arrival of around 500 families from the areas of Umm Arda and Jabal Al-Hashaba, who traveled on foot following attacks reportedly carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the area two days ago.
The sources said the families, including children and elderly people, arrived in extremely difficult humanitarian conditions and are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
They noted that the growing number of displaced people has worsened the humanitarian situation in the city, particularly amid the ongoing rainy season.
The areas of Umm Arda, Jabal Al-Hashaba, Alban Jadid, and Al-Ayara, which are controlled by the army and joint forces, are located around El Obeid in North Kordofan State. Their importance stems from their strategic geographic location near the city and along routes leading to it.
These areas are also of military significance because they lie along routes and axes that could be used to advance toward El Obeid or reinforce supply lines and military positions around the city. Control of these areas therefore has a direct impact on securing the city’s entrances and the movement of forces in the region.
