Project to Protect Displaced Women and Girls in Central Darfur

Central Darfur – Mashaweer

For the third consecutive week, the Women’s Emergency Room in the Dileij Unit, to Wadi Salih Locality in Central Darfur State, has continued implementing the “Safe Spaces for Women and Girls” project for displaced women and girls. The activities coincide with the observance of World Humanitarian Day and aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for women and girls amid conflict and humanitarian crises.

This week’s activities focused on reproductive health, through awareness-raising sessions and discussion forums addressing health education, access to medical services and care, as well as women’s and girls’ fundamental health rights and ways to access these services safely and with dignity.

Women’s rights activist in Central Darfur, Manasik Khater, told Mashaweer that “the project aims to provide safe spaces where women and girls can learn, express their needs, and participate in issues affecting their lives, while also strengthening their knowledge of health and rights-related matters.”

She explained that “the activities help alleviate the psychological and social burdens associated with crises and strengthen women’s and girls’ ability to protect themselves by providing spaces for safe dialogue and raising awareness about reproductive health. This contributes to reducing health risks resulting from a lack of information or limited access to medical services.”
